The séance is about to begin at City Opera

Ladies and Gents, we are merely days away from the New York City Opera premiere of Stephen Schwartz' first opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon, which is based on the novel by Mark McShane and the 1964 noir movie adaptation of the same name.

As many of you loyal readers will remember from past posts, this show got some pretty-darn-good reviews after it's first run in Santa Barbara. For example, Chiclets ... according to Bob Verini's review in Variety, this psychological thriller, starring soprano Lauren Flanigan as Myra, the medium, relies on "transitions reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann with Hitchcock -- nervous, violent pizzicati or great, thumping chords from the underworld."

I. Cannot. Wait.

The show opens on April 19th at 7:30 and runs until May 1st. But in order to satiate your desire for more, here is a clip courtesy of New York City Opera, New Music Box and American Music Center.

Something tells me that, if this show goes over well in NYC, we'll be seeing a lot more of it ... and maybe even further dips into the operatic pond by Mr. Schwartz.
