This tenor refuses to be defeated

Giuseppe Filianoti

A truly inspiring story - In the Met's Tales of Hoffmann, 36-year-old Giuseppe Filianoti [R.]plays a poet defeated by life. The singer's brush with tragedy off the stage had a far happier ending.
The Italian tenor seemed poised for a major career after winning raves for his 2005 Met debut in Lucia di Lammermoor. But a year later, fresh off a rehearsal for a concert at Carnegie Hall, he received a call from his doctor with chilling news: A recent checkup revealed cancer cells in his thyroid gland.

**Update 10/10/2010**

During Google research for this post, I found a picture of someone who reportedly was Mr. Filianoti.  I found out this evening from Mr. Filianoti's management that the picture was incorrect.  I sincerely apologize for the mix-up.
