Mr. Koch's [koke's] dirty money

The name David H. Koch might sound familiar to some of you. David H. Koch is, after all, the name on the theater previously known as the State Theater which houses New York City Opera.

To that end, we've mentioned Mr. Koch a few times right here at A Liberal's Libretto.

Well, as luck would have it, Mr. Koch - the 9th richest man in America - is actually in the news again. Twice.

The Wonk Room is reporting that a "‘Grateful’ Smithsonian Denies Greenwashing ‘Philanthropist’ David H. Koch’s Dirty Money". The first line of the article says it all:
According to the Smithsonian Institution, it doesn’t matter how toxic your politics are or how dirty your money is, as long as you give the cash to them.
And here I thought NYC Opera was the only organization that felt desperate enough in this recession to take in this dirty money. Guess I was wrong.

But wait! There's more.

Our second mention of Mr. Koch is courtesy of Rachel Maddow of MSNBC. Please take a few minutes and watch this very eye opening clip from last night's Rachel Maddow Show.

Before you go... for the record, we'd like to thank Dr. Maddow for setting the record straight on how to pronounce Koch. It is indeed pronounced [koke] - like Diet Coke - not Kotch and certainly not Cock.

Cock would be too easy. Think about the loads of distasteful and immature, yet uproariously funny, jokes.
