The Drama Drop -

*It's getting uglier out there... The Los Angeles Opera has announced that it, too, is cutting back to the tune of 17 layoffs, which is roughly 17% of their workforce.  According to the New York Times, Placido Domingo, the company's general director, had deferred his salary last year to help cut costs.  That's good to see.  It makes the sting of a layoff less painful.

*Anna Netrebko as Lucia di Lammermoor and the Met... Anthony Tommasini wrote a fantastically truthful review of the Mommy Netrebko's pairing with tenor Rolando Villazon.  Villazon, you'll remember, has been plagued in recent past by vocal issues.  This was his first return to the Met since recovery and according to Tommasini, it didn't go very well.

*OH, to be a fly on the wall backstage at THIS one... New York Moments, a concert featuring iconic musical moments from Broadway and film, will be April 20th at Avery Fisher Hall.  Said to be featured are Minnelli, O'Hara, Szot, Holliday, Grey and will be conducted by Marvin Hamlisch.  The concert is a fund raiser for the NY Phil and includes a post-concert reception with the artists.

*And last, but not least... I'm a sucker for a good quote, so I thought I would end with one today.  This quote is from Kevin Bacon as reported by Perez Hilton.  When describing the secret to a long, happy marriage, Mr. Bacon quipped: "You have to keep the fights clean and the sex dirty."  This gives some new meaning to the two words that save every marriage, "Yes, Dear."
